In the 1960s a young woman works at NASA as an animal trainer responsible for the chimpanzee who will go into space.
Dr. Wilhelm von Huber, a WW-II German rocket scientist, is now working for NASA. He is sent to Florida to work on a project to put a chimpanzee in space but his son Billy is having trouble fitting in with the other kids there. It’s discovered, however, that Billy has an unusual ability to get along with animals, and he is hired to work in the program to train the chimps for the space flight. When things go wrong on the space capsule’s re-entry, it’s up to Billy to coax the chimp to throw a certain switch that controls the retro-rockets.
